The electric vehicle giant is recalling its Powerwall 2 AC Battery System, a device designed to store energy for homes and small businesses. This system, which retails for $8,000, was sold online and through certified installers from November 2020 to December 2022. And now, approximately 10,500 units are being recalled in the U.S. due to a potential fire hazard.
Here's the catch: Tesla claims the issue stems from a third-party battery cell defect. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that these faulty cells can cause the battery system to malfunction and overheat, potentially leading to smoking, flames, and even death or serious injury in some cases.
