Rithvik Dhanjani Breaks Silence on Casting Couch Trauma: 'I Froze When He Touched Me' (2025)

The Casting Couch: A Young Actor's Terrifying Encounter

A chilling reminder of the dark side of showbiz.

Popular TV star Rithvik Dhanjani bravely shared his traumatic experience with the casting couch, an incident that occurred when he was just 20 years old. In a recent podcast appearance on Two Girls and Two Cups, Rithvik opened up about this unsettling event, which left an indelible mark on his mind.

The Lure of the Casting Director

Rithvik found himself in Mumbai's Aram Nagar, a hub for casting offices and auditions. While waiting in a long queue, a so-called "prominent" casting director approached him, confirming he was shortlisted. This encounter seemed like a dream come true, but little did Rithvik know, it was the beginning of a nightmare.

"I was taken out of the line by this angelic figure, who assured me I was shortlisted. I was overjoyed and grateful," Rithvik recalled. But the director's next move raised red flags. He insisted on riding a bike with Rithvik, a strange choice for someone of his supposed stature.

"I should have known something was amiss right then. A prominent casting director with no car or even a two-wheeler? It didn't add up," Rithvik said.

A Disturbing Destination

As they rode, the director name-dropped famous actors he claimed to have launched, trying to impress Rithvik. But upon reaching their destination, Rithvik's suspicions grew. Instead of an office, they arrived at a grocery shop and a bun-maska stall. The director led Rithvik down a narrow lane, which ended at a locked gate. Inside, it was pitch black, with stairs leading upwards. "He said, 'Come up, this is my office.' I was terrified; I knew something wasn't right," Rithvik shared.

When asked to present his work, Rithvik showed his laptop and a CD with his showreel. The director stopped the reel and complimented Rithvik's hard work. But then, the situation took a dark turn. "The moment he touched me, I froze. I was shaking, petrified. I was only 20," Rithvik said.

Escaping and Finding Support

Rithvik managed to escape and immediately went to a friend's place, where he broke down. He considered quitting the industry but was encouraged to move on by his friend. Reflecting on the #MeToo era, Rithvik expressed hope for change. "I want these predators exposed, and I need people to speak up. If I saw someone like that now, I'd be furious. I couldn't do anything back then, but speaking up is crucial," he emphasized.

Rithvik Dhanjani's journey includes popular shows like Pavitra Rishta, Yeh Hai Aashiqui, Bairi Piya, and Tere Liye.

And here's where it gets controversial...
