Prince William Gives Up E-Scooter for Windsor's Forest Lodge (2026)

Imagine trading a little bit of personal freedom for a whole lot of peace and quiet. That's essentially what Prince William has done! He's had to give up a favorite pastime in exchange for the tranquility of his family's new home, Forest Lodge.

Just two months after the Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, settled into what was intended to be their long-term residence, a somewhat unexpected restriction has been placed upon the future King. The move to Forest Lodge was envisioned as a "fresh start," a chance for the family to enjoy a more private and normal life. But here's where it gets controversial... the Royal Family's desire for privacy sometimes clashes with the day-to-day realities of living on a large estate accessible to the public.

The new rules implemented within Windsor Great Park effectively ban Prince William's preferred mode of transportation around the royal grounds: his beloved e-scooter. Yes, you read that right! The future King was zipping around on an e-scooter!

The official notice cites "safety and traffic management" as the reasons for the ban, stating that "e-scooters, hoverboards, and similar devices" are now "not permitted." Cyclists, however, are still allowed, and the roads are primarily reserved for residents and estate workers. It's a bit of a blow to the Prince's personal freedom, but one he seemingly accepts.

An insider revealed to The Sun, "William used to love his e-scooter to get around the castle as there was no ban." But, the source added, “of course, he’s more than happy and prepared to adhere to the rules on e-scooters in Windsor Great Park.” It seems even Princes must follow the rules of the road, or, in this case, the paths of Windsor Great Park.

Recently, William even joked about his punctuality (or lack thereof) and his e-scooter during a filming session with Eugene Levy for the actor's docuseries, The Reluctant Traveller. He explained that while his father, King Charles, "spends a lot of time here," the royals primarily use Windsor Castle for work, meetings, and seeing people. William quipped that the e-scooter was his attempt to stay on schedule, admitting, "I’m always late so I thought this was the way to keep my meetings on time." He even humorously recounted getting a puncture that morning, which explained his slow pace.

And this is the part most people miss... While the ban prevents William from riding his e-scooter down The Long Walk, the iconic 2.5-mile tree-lined avenue leading to Windsor Castle, he is still permitted to use it on the roads closer to his house. So, the sacrifice is less about giving up the e-scooter entirely and more about limiting its use to specific areas.

The big question is: Is this a reasonable compromise, or is it an unfair restriction on the Prince's personal life? Should the rules be different for the Royal Family compared to other residents of the estate? Is it a fair price to pay for the privacy and security of Forest Lodge? What do you think?
