Bold headline: A beloved Alabama icon changes hands, with plans to preserve its legacy for future families. But here's where it gets controversial: does a change in ownership risk diluting a long-standing local tradition, or does it bring fresh investment that enhances the guest experience?
Nick Saban, Terry Saban, Joe Agresti, Perdido Hotel Partners, and a small group of investors have completed the acquisition of Perdido Beach Resort in Orange Beach as of December 2.
A representative for Perdido Beach Resort confirmed the deal to Gulf Coast Media on Wednesday evening. For nearly four decades, Perdido Beach Resort has been a popular destination for families across the Southeast.
The purchasing group describes the move as a commitment to safeguarding a cherished Alabama gem while ensuring its ongoing success for future generations.
Aurora Hospitality Partners, an Alabama-based hotel management company and affiliate of Perdido Hotel Partners, will co-own the property and oversee daily operations. The firm has stated its dedication to protecting the resort’s legacy while shaping a future that serves local families, the Gulf Coast community, and visitors for years to come.
“We are deeply honored to steward a place that holds such significance for countless families throughout our state,” said Blair Plott, co-founder of Aurora Hospitality Partners. “It matters to us that Perdido Beach Resort will proceed under leadership rooted in Alabama’s values and committed to the community’s future. Our goal is to build on its legacy and elevate the guest experience in a way that reflects the best of Alabama.”
Since its opening in 1987, Perdido Beach Resort has remained under the ownership of its developer, Jim Meadlock, a notable Alabama businessman. The resort currently features 338 rooms, more than 43,000 square feet of event and meeting space, and four food and beverage outlets.
Consistent with its customary practice, the resort will be closed for most of December and is scheduled to reopen under new ownership on December 30.
