Jets Make QB Brady Cook Announcement Before Dolphins Game
The New York Jets have pulled off a roster shuffle, announcing on Saturday, December 6, that rookie quarterback Brady Cook has been added to the 53-man roster. Alongside him, rookie defensive back Jordan Clark — son of ESPN analyst Ryan Clark — also earned a spot on the 53-man roster.
In related moves, the Jets placed starting slot corner Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and team captain linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball on injured reserve. With only five regular-season games left, either Brownlee or McCrary-Ball could potentially return for Week 18, but the more likely outcome is that both will miss the rest of the 2025 season.
Jets Will Carry 3 Quarterbacks on the 53-Man Roster
Backup quarterback Justin Fields was ruled out for the Week 14 game against the Miami Dolphins due to knee soreness, which meant Cook would serve as the QB2 on Sunday, December 7. The big question was how the Jets would structure the roster: would Cook be a temporary practice squad elevation for this game, or would he be signed to the active roster?
The answer arrived on Saturday: the Jets will indeed carry three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster moving forward. Tyrod Taylor will start against the Dolphins, but Cook is now one injury away from stepping onto the field and making his regular-season debut.
Cook Breaks Silence on New Opportunity With the Green and White
After Coach Robert Glenn shared the news with the media, Cook spoke on Friday, December 5, about the exciting opportunity.
“It's exciting. It's exciting, obviously, from a personal standpoint, you’re always chasing that next opportunity, and this one is mine. To back up Tyrod this week, it's a pleasure, and I'm truly excited,” Cook said.
On Friday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn described Cook as a “fiery guy.”
“I think competitive is the right word. To play quarterback, you have to be competitive. It has to be in your blood, and that’s who I am. Practice, meetings, film, walkthroughs — you could see it in the preseason and during film study. You just have to be competitive, and that’s a good word to describe me,” Cook explained.
Jets Bring Reinforcements on the Back End of Their Defense
The Jets also announced two practice squad elevations for this game, bringing up defensive backs Tre Brown and Nik Needham. Both players will revert to the practice squad on Monday, December 8.
For the upcoming matchup, the Jets will rely on all available depth. Brownlee’s absence leaves a void in the secondary, but the team has shown it can adapt — evidenced by last week’s win over the Atlanta Falcons. This week, expect Brown, Clark, and Needham to receive reps, as the defense uses a mix of safeties dropping into the slot, nickel looks, and rotating cornerbacks.
Other Injuries to Track Ahead of the Dolphins Rematch
On Saturday, the Jets downgraded linebacker Cam Jones to out and listed starting safety Tony Adams as doubtful for the game. With the roster moves in place, New York will look to lean on its growing depth as it prepares for the rematch with Miami.
