CNH 2025 Tech Day: AI, Robotics, and Automation for Sustainable Farming (2025)

The future of farming is here, and it's an exciting journey! CNH's Tech Day at Agritechnica, the world's largest agriculture showcase, is all about empowering farmers with cutting-edge innovations. Under the inspiring banner 'Every Field Feeds the Future', CNH is leading the charge towards a more sustainable and efficient agricultural sector. But here's where it gets controversial: can AI and autonomy really transform farming as we know it? Let's dive in and explore the possibilities!

CNH's vision is clear: to create a connected ecosystem where AI and autonomy thrive, offering farmers predictive and sustainable systems. Their intelligent Ag Tech solutions cover every stage of the crop cycle, from preparation to harvesting, with a focus on maximizing productivity and minimizing resources.

"Agriculture is facing an immense challenge: feeding a growing population with limited land and increasingly challenging conditions," says Gerrit Marx, CNH's CEO. "AI is a game-changer, enabling rapid innovation across our products, people, and processes."

To drive this transformation, CNH is expanding its technology portfolio, with a 2030 strategy aimed at nearly doubling Precision Tech sales. Let's take a closer look at some of their current and future Ag Tech solutions:

  • Prescription Tillage: Already making a difference, this technology tackles soil erosion, residue management, and soil health, resulting in increased productivity, better yields, and fuel savings.
  • Autonomous Tillage (in development): Building on Prescription Tillage, this innovation allows farmers to reallocate labor and maximize efficiency, leading to better agronomic outcomes.
  • Planter Automation: With Active Implement Guidance (available now) and Passive Implement Guidance (launching in 2026), CNH ensures precise seed placement, optimizing nutrient distribution and root development, which leads to higher yields and cost savings.
  • Next-Generation Planters (by 2030): These planters will feature integrated guidance, enhanced automation, remote software management, and real-time monitoring via FieldOps™, reducing labor needs and maximizing uptime.
  • Sense and Act Spraying Portfolio: Utilizing AI for targeted weed detection and variable rate application, this portfolio can save up to 60% on herbicide costs.
  • Green-on-Green Spraying (launching 2027): With One Smart Spray, CNH aims to reduce herbicide use by up to 80%, supporting sustainability and cost efficiency.
  • Combine Automation (2023 Agritechnica Gold Innovation winner): Leveraging industry-leading technologies, this automation simplifies operations and boosts productivity, delivering higher net revenue and increased tons per hour harvested in wheat operations.
  • Corn Header Automation (2025 Agritechnica Silver Innovation winner): Using AI and advanced sensing, this technology reduces crop losses, enhances performance, and cuts fuel usage.
  • Kernel Processing System (2025 Agritechnica Silver Innovation winner): Installed on Forage Harvesters, this system employs sensors and AI to tailor kernel processing for livestock feed, improving meat and milk nutrition.
  • FILLAutomation (future proof of concept): Mounted on forage harvesters, this system scans trailers and guides the spout for precise filling, reducing operator fatigue and spillage.
  • Advanced Guidance Systems: Combining GPS and LIDAR, these systems automate path planning for specialty tractors, supporting less experienced operators and boosting productivity.
  • R4 Autonomous Robot Family (proof of concept): Fully autonomous, cab-less vehicles with hybrid or electric powertrains, these robots execute repetitive tasks like mowing, tillage, and spraying, increasing efficiency and reducing labor shortages.

All these technologies are integrated and enhanced by CNH's FieldOps™ Digital Farm Management Platform, providing real-time data, fleet management, and remote support for CNH brands. This open digital ecosystem allows farmers to collaborate with third parties and ensures flexibility and compatibility.

And let's not forget the importance of soil health! CNH's technology aims to preserve soil through nutrient stratification, crop residue management, water conservation, and integrated pest management. With only 3% of the Earth's surface suitable for crop production and 33% of soils already degraded, these innovations are crucial.

As agriculture embraces a new era of growth and innovation, CNH is committed to supporting farmers in protecting their legacy and feeding the future, one field at a time.

So, what do you think? Can AI and autonomy revolutionize farming as we know it? We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
